Monday morning is normally the time I start planning my next weekend. I check my content calendar on my phone to see the date of the coming weekend, and fill it with notes of possibilities. Before I know it, I've got so many things scheduled in for the weekend, that I have to scale it back.
This weekend was another one of those weekends. It kicked off with Taste Melbourne on Friday night. The weather all week had been miserable, and it had almost seemed as though Melbourne had got Winter confused with Spring. When Friday morning rolled around, it looked grey and gloomy, and I was considering pulling out from going, but in typical Melbourne style, the sun came out mid afternoon just enough time for me to start preparing my stomach and body for the gastronomic onslaught to ensue.
Taste Melbourne was held out on Pelican Lawn, in Albert Park. Tresna (of Yelp) had kindly given us free tickets, otherwise the $30 entry fee would have been another deterrent. The stand out dishes would have had to been the salted caramel dessert from Burch and Purchese, and also the salted calamari from Albert St Food and Wine.
Saturday morning was spent at Barre Body in the city. I don't normally like to head into the city on the weekend, as I spend enough time there during the week, but Teresa was teaching the class so I knew it was going to be a hard one. I feel like I have definitely toned and got leaner since starting the classes there 6 months ago, but my flexibility, well that's something that still needs a lot of work.
Gelato Messina opened in Collingwood this weekend, originally from Sydney, this place will surely be the new hotspot of Melbourne. I tried the Chocolate Pretzel Brownie, with the amount of creaminess and chunks of brownie in there, I think I basically wrote off any exercise I did prior.
People's Garden started this weekend, as part of Melbourne Music Week. I'm not sold on the People's Market/Garden's new location, it definitely draws a different crowd, but it was good to see none the less. The Residence dome holds the concert, while the garden is the place to drink, eat and be seen. Big ups to an old friend, Ben who designed the Garden and did the site plan.
I decided to try out another new yoga spot this morning, called Body Flow Yoga. It's based in Windsor, and they were giving away free classes to celebrate their housewarming. The studio was so white, bright and clean. You could definitely tell that this place is going to do well. They do a range of yoga styles and I really wanted to try the aerial yoga, but unfortunately couldn't get in. Instead I tried the Flow 90 minute class in 27 degrees. I must admit, normally I don't enjoy yoga that much, it's a little too slow for me, but this one I did.
The rest of the day was spent chilling in the sun at Edinburgh Gardens with friends. An excellent way to end a busy weekend.
